Old Testament
God is all powerful, all knowing, and all good. He is also a God of justice. God is the Creator. God has created man with a free will—the ability to choose to do right or wrong. These truths are found often throughout the Bible.
What about free will? God could have made us robots. God did create the world perfect, but when man used his free will and chose evil rather than good, everything changed. Poor Adam was persuaded by his wife Eve, that if they ate of the tree of good and evil, they would be more like God. It was a temptation set up by the devil, the serpent. Eve had a choice, and so did Adam, but both chose to disobey what God had told them to do. Life is not much different today. God has set life before us, the devil tempts, and man and woman choose.
"Today I am giving you a choice between prosperity and disaster, between life and death." (Deuteronomy 30:15)
Why does an all knowing, all powerful, all good God allow bad things in this world? He can do anything, so why doesn't He stop the evil and fix the wrongs. He could, but He doesn’t. The problem is with us! We are sinners; we don’t want to go by God’s rules we want to make our own. We change the rules to fit what we want or think. Millions of people have made their own rules and what a mess we are in. We can be a very self-righteous people, demanding that others go by the rules, but then we pick and choose other rules to bend for our benefit. We rationalize and justify our disobedience, but condemn the disobedience of others.
Our sins and the sins of others cause disaster and destruction. You see this attitude continually in society—the rules are for everyone else but me.
Just pick any area of life and you will see humans ignoring the rules—often times so they can become richer or have more fun. Just a quick glimpse at the business world or the world of sexual immorality will show how God’s rules are being ignored for the hope of prosperity or pleasure.
The world doesn’t want to accept responsibility, so when things go wrong it is God’s fault and when things go right it is because we are smart or good. We have been deceived. Much of America has forgotten God and still refuses to obey Him. We have substituted our rules for God’s rules and then point our finger at God when all hell breaks loose. God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah for their sins and America is engaged in the same sins. We all need to be thankful that God hasn’t destroyed us for our prideful disobedience.
If we, (the world) would repent and turn to God and choose to follow Him, oh how life would change. God wants us all to come to him. As wicked and disgusting as humans can be, God still loves us. He wants us to willingly come to Him. So, God allows the evil to continue, He allows us to use, abuse, and destroy each other in the hopes that we will come to the end of ourselves, and turn to Him, and receive eternal salvation through Jesus Christ.
