Psalm 23:6 

"Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."​

In the Bible, ‘the house of the Lord’ is used in several ways.  In 1 Corinthians we are told that we are the temple of God and that His Spirit can dwell within us.  The house of the Lord may also refer to a church, a physical building here on earth.  But we also see that the House of the Lord is the place where God lives.  In Psalm 23:6 the psalmist tells us that he will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.  The psalmist declares in Psalm 26:8, “I love the house where you live, O Lord, the place where your glory dwells.”  The place where God dwells is heaven.​

For every believer in Jesus Christ our citizenship is in heaven. (Philippians 3:20)  And this is the way to have eternal life—to know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one You sent to earth. (John 17:3)

In Revelations 5:11 we are told that in heaven are angels, numbering ten thousand times ten thousand.  God is in the heights of heaven. (Job 22:12)  Heaven is His throne, and the earth is His footstool. (Isaiah 66:1)  It is clear that heaven is a place, we will have a home, and we will dwell with the Lord, the angels, and other believers.

Jesus told His disciples in the 14th chapter of John, “Do not let your hearts be troubled.  Trust in God, trust also in me.  In my Father’s house are many rooms, if it were not so, I would have told you.  I am going there to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”  Further in John 17, Jesus says, “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.”  In Psalm 73:24 we are told that God will guide us with His counsel and afterward He will take us into His glory.  Jesus is coming back to get us, He will take us into His glory.  Jesus Christ is preparing a place for us, an eternal home, whatever it takes for each of us to be ‘at home’.

In Psalm 116:15 we are told, “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.”  Can you see how much God cares, how much effort He has put forth for each of us.  God not only sent His son to die on the cross for us so that we might have eternal life, He has taken care of every detail.  He wants us, no matter what we may think of ourselves, to be with Him forever.  The Bible tells us much more about heaven.  There will be rewards in heaven, some are described as great rewards. (Matthew 5:11-12)  In heaven, God is keeping, for each of us, an inheritance that can never perish, spoil, or fade. (1 Peter 1:4)  In heaven we will be filled with God’s presence and eternal pleasures. (Psalm 16:11)  In Matthew 25:21 we are told that the good and faithful servants will share their Master’s happiness.

Never again will anyone be hungry or thirsty, never again will the scorching sun beat upon anyone. (Revelation 7:15-17)  God will wipe away every tear, there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain. (Revelation 21:4)

Paul tells us in Romans 8:18, “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”

And then in 1 Corinthians 2:9  he says, “However, as it is written, no eye has seen, nor ear has heard, nor mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.”  Some blessed saints go through much hardship while on earth, and Paul says that even those who have suffered the worst won’t compare their worst pains with the glory God has in store for them in eternity.  Heaven is better than anything we have ever seen or heard.

Now if that isn’t enough, there is more to what God is going to do for us and in us in heaven.  In 1 John 3:2 we read, “Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known.  But we know that when He appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.”  Now hang on for this, Jesus is perfect and never sinned and never will sin.  In heaven we will be perfect—never sinning.  We will be satisfied-totally contented—never being jealous of what others have and never striving to have more.  Never again will we worry about wearing the right thing, no bad hair days, no cellulite.  I find it hard to imagine never having the wrong motive, never feeling guilty about something said or done, and never again blowing it—whoa is that awesome or what?  And there’s more!  In 1 Corinthians 13:9-12 we are told that we will fully know.  In heaven we will be wise.  There will be no more dumb blond jokes, because we all will know everything we need to know.  We will know each other, we will be with our fellow believers.

The most important, Jesus Christ is the center of attention in heaven.  Words seem shallow to describe what an awesome privilege it will be for us to be in the presence of the living God.  Jesus loves us ALL and He wants to lavish these eternal blessings on ALL of us.  It is a Biblical truth, that God wants ALL of us to be in heaven, and He can and will forgive any and ALL sins so that we can be with Him forever.  The only thing that will keep any of us out of heaven is our stubborn refusal to accept Him as Lord and Savior.
