This summer, at Western Meadows, we had record breaking heat.  On one very hot day this large bird fell out of the sky into our backyard.  We called the wildlife department and they came and rescued him.  They thought the bird was perhaps a red winged hawk—we just knew he was beautiful.  We were told that over twenty hawks and owls in our county had fallen to the ground unable to fly from heat exhaustion.  Even though the bird rested in our yard and ate, he was unable to lift those magnificent wings and fly away.

It is easy to become exhausted from life.  Resting and food may revive our physical bodies, but what about our spirit?  It is easy to become weary in loving others and doing good for others.  Jesus, because He lived on earth and experienced all the things we experience, knows what we are going through.  Here are the answers that God gives to His people who are weary and tired.

Galatians 6:9-10

"So don’t get tired of doing what is good.

Don’t get discouraged and give up.

For we will reap a harvest of blessing at the appropriate time.

Whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone, especially to our Christian brothers and sisters."

Sometimes it is hard to do the right thing.  Sometimes it is really hard to love others!  When others don’t treat us like we would like, it can be really hard to not punch their lights out.  Men can use physical force to get back at the wrong done to them, but women, well, we just usually try to destroy someone with our words, either to their face or behind their back.

Have there been people in your lives that you have tried for years to be nice to, but it seems that they just don’t like you?  Galatians 6:9-10 is for you to treasure in your heart.  God’s Word tells us not to get tired of doing what is good, to not get discouraged and give up.  Our love and concern for others is doing something in their hearts.  It may be small and we may never see the results, but God is using you at that moment to be His example of kindness and concern.  God loves all people; He doesn’t always love what we do, but His love for each of us never dwindles.  And this is for us too, loving others never means approving of their sins or sinful lifestyle.

If you seem to be to the breaking point of being nice and doing what is right, here is another verse.  Hebrews 4:14-16  “That is why we have a great High Priest who has gone to heaven, Jesus the Son of God.  Let us cling to him and never stop trusting Him.  This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same temptations we do, yet he did not sin.  So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God.  There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it.”

God will let our relationships become tense so that we will come to Him for help.  And this awesome set of verses is so encouraging.  Cling to God.  Trust God for He understands what we are going through.  Many people were awful to Jesus while He was on earth, they spit on Him, they called Him a devil, they plotted His death, but He continued loving.  Jesus knows how hard it is to keep on keeping on.

And there is more to these verses: “come boldly to His throne and receive His mercy and grace to help us in our need.”  All we need to do is humbly go to God and ask Him for help.  He will never refuse to help us or strengthen us—how wonderful!  God’s grace gives us strength.  We can leave God’s presence filled with love. If we will kneel before Him and ask Him to fill us with His love for someone, like a pitcher full of water poured on our head, His love will completely immerse us.  We can rise from our knees strengthened by the grace of God to continue loving.
