This Psalm was song by David on the day the Lord rescued him from all his enemies and from Saul.  David loved Saul and honored Saul, but primarily because of jealousy Saul spent years trying to kill David.  David ran from Saul and his army for years.

​

Let’s look at verses 4-6 first.  David lays out his circumstances.  “The ropes of death entangled me, floods of destruction swept over me.  The grave wrapped its ropes around me; death laid a trap in my path.  But in my distress I cried out to the Lord, yes, I prayed to my God for help.  He heard me from his sanctuary, my cry to him reached his ears.”

Now for the first three verses, “I love you, Lord: you are my strength.  The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock in whom I find protection.  He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.  I called on the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and he saved me from my enemies.”

​

There are so many incredible things to look at in this Psalm, but I just want to touch on a few here.

​

1.  King David, a most valiant warrior, king, and leader, cried out to God for help.

2.  God heard David’s prayer.

3.  David loved God.  God was his strength.  God was his savior.  God was the one who protected him.  David knew it was God that saved him from his enemies.

​WOW!  Totally awesome!



Psalm 26:1-8—Can we come before God like David did?

​

Oh, how God loves his little boys!

​

Because of time and space I am not going to write out these eight verses, but please read them in your Bible.  God’s Word is so much more important than my words.  You will get the most benefit from  time in the Bible.  

​

In Psalm 26:1 David asks God to declare him innocent because HE HAD ACTED WITH INTEGRITY and HE TRUSTED GOD WITHOUT WAVERING.   

​

In Psalm 26:2 David asked God to put him on trial, to cross examine him, and to test his motives.  He had the boldness to ask this because: 

 

•     He was always aware of God’s unfailing love.
•     He had lived according to God’s truth.
•     He did not spend time with liars.
•     He did not go along with hypocrites.
•     He hated the gatherings of the evil.
•     He refused to join the wicked.

​

Continuing, David says in Psalm 26:6-8:  

​

"I wash my hands to declare my innocence.  I come to your altar, O Lord, singing a song of thanksgiving and telling of your wonders.   ​

I love your sanctuary, Lord, the place where your glorious presence dwells."

HYPOCRISY–PUTTING ON A MASK!       

​

In the Greek, hypocrite was defined as a pretender; as someone wearing a mask pretending to be something he isn’t.  Now all of us at times can act like a hypocrite.  At times all of us have put on a mask and pretended to be all together.  Often someone has asked me; “How are you?”  Then not wanting to go into it, I became hypocritical and said, “I’m fine.”  I wasn’t fine.  Any of us can pretend to be better than we are.   

​

A true hypocrite is one who lives their lives to make a show.  They are filled with pride and like being recognized and being the center of attention.  They can make a big deal of  all the ‘good’ things they do for men to see.  My husband calls a hypocritical man as  “All hat and no cowboy!”  

​

MAKING A MISTAKE, SINNING, IS NOT HYPOCRISY!       

​But now back to David.  Much of David’s life is recorded in the Bible.  He made some very large mistakes.  He even had one of his soldiers murdered, then married his wife because she was pregnant with David’s baby, and then tried to cover up the mess.  God dealt with David and these sins.  David repented.  David is described in the Bible as the man who loved God the most.

Even the person that loves God the most and wants to do right all the time can make huge mistakes–sins.   

​

GOD’S AWESOME GRACE!       

SEE PRECIOUS PEOPLE, THE GRACE OF GOD.  David blew it, repented and God forgave.  God cleansed, refreshed and restored David.  David didn’t live in condemnation or guilt, David went on with his life.

DAVID LOVED BEING WITH GOD AND THANKING HIM!       

David sang songs of thanksgiving to God.  He knew God’s wonders and wanted to tell others.  Being THANKFUL to God is so important!  

And the last line, “I LOVE YOUR SANCTUARY, LORD, THE PLACE WHERE YOUR GLORIOUS PRESENCE DWELLS.”   

​

David, always being aware of God’s unfailing love and living according to God’s truth—-loved being close to God and couldn’t contain himself in thanking God.  

​
