BUT THOSE THAT WAIT ON THE LORD WILL FIND NEW STRENGTH. ​

THEY WILL FLY HIGH ON WINGS LIKE EAGLES.

THEY WILL RUN AND NOT GROW WEARY.

THEY WILL WALK AND NOT FAINT. 

(Isaiah 40:31)

As a child, this verse was one of my son’s favorites.  He had the verse with a picture of a bald eagle soaring high; hung on his bedroom wall.  As children some of us have dreamed of flying like birds.  Today, we fly physically in airplanes, but mentally many people have sunk to an all time low.  Some people consume anti-depressants just to be able to get out of bed in the morning.

In this verse, we get another amazing glimpse of what God wants to do for His kids.  Not fainting, not growing weary, flying high, and finding new strength—-are not all of these assets to a rodeo family?  After this hectic Fourth of July rodeo tour who doesn’t need more strength, who doesn’t need the encouragement to know they can fly high?  How awesome to know that God is on our side—He wants us to be strong and soar.

This verse is a promise to those that WAIT on the Lord.  This word wait comes from a word that means to bind together, similar to the strands of a rope.  The Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament says this: it implies looking for with eager expectation.  Waiting with steadfast endurance is a great expression of faith.  Waiting involves the very essence of a persons’ being, his soul.
 

For a Christian to experience this verse, one must get tight with God.  Just like the ropes used in rodeo, they are twisted together tightly to give them the strength they need.  Our strength and freedom come from being tight with God.

Because we live in this world, it is a Biblical truth that we are engaged in a huge battle. The spiritual battle is won or lost in the mind of every believer.  We all know that rodeo is a mental game—so is our spiritual life.  The devil does everything he can in our mind to frustrate the plans of God.  The devil will come at you from every angle to keep you from experiencing this verse.  Each believer has to make the choice to fight for the things that God wants to give.  But the truth of the matter is that we can be the victors.  Christ has given all that we need to win this battle, but the choice is ours.

Cowboys are to be admired for their steadfast endurance in the rodeo arena.  When this steadfast endurance is applied to the spiritual life of the Christian cowboy—watch out!  Many cowboys don’t realize how much God wants to do for them.  They don’t realize that God wants to make us the best we can be.  The mental game can get to all of us and to realize that God wants to strengthen us to soar above the storms of life is really too incredible to believe God cannot lie.  His Word (the Bible) is true, He wants us free to soar, to not grow weary in doing good, and to walk the walk of faith no matter what lies in our path.  To receive the promise of Isaiah 40:31 we must make the choice and with steadfast endurance wait, trust, and hope in God.
