Old Testament
The story of Adam and Eve.
The devil came and tempted Eve, Eve bought the lie and was so convinced that what the devil told her was true she talked her husband Adam into buying the lie. And guess what happened. Life forever after was hard for both the man and the woman. God had big plans for Adam and Eve in the garden and with the big mistake they both lost greatly. Hmm, now there are plenty of other stories in the Bible that show that without any influence from a woman at all a man can make bad choices on his own, but this story (and there are several others in the Bible) shows that the influence of a wife is strong and powerful—so strong she is able to convince her husband to go against God.
In the book of Proverbs is a rather sobering verse that says, “A wise woman builds her home, but with her own hands a foolish one tears hers down.” Let’s look at the positive side of this verse! We can all be women that build and strengthen our homes and families. We can be positive influences for our husbands, kids, and everyone else around us. We can be women that build up our husbands and encourage them to do what is right in God’s eyes.
To make it real simple—the wise woman lives God’s way—the foolish woman does it her way. We may think we are doing things right and it may feel right to us, but God, because of His love and His desire for us to have joyful, peaceful, productive lives tells us straight and to the point—just because you think it is right or just because you feel it is right doesn’t make it right. Most of us live our lives doing what we think is right—but that isn’t enough to insure our homes being strong and able to withstand any storm. We have to be doing what God says is right to have the super insurance of knowing that our homes will be stronger and better because of our influence.
- Living God’s way gives each woman the insurance that her home will not be destroyed by what she did.
- Living God’s way gives each woman the insurance to know that she did everything she could to make her marriage and family all that God wanted them to be.
God created us, gave us the rules, and then gave us the freedom to choose to live God’s way or our way. God promises that if we live with all our hearts obeying Him that we will build and strengthen our homes. God also promises that if we live doing what we think is right that we will do things that tear down and weaken our homes. Each of us have made some mistakes that hurt our families. We aren’t here to dwell on our mistakes—that isn’t God’s way. He wants us to admit the mistakes so we can learn from them—but never to dwell on them or to be condemned and disabled by them.
Guess what, here is more positive news. If you have been tearing down your home and want to start building—God wants to help. The moment you turn to him and admit your mistakes and say “I am ready to do it Your way, Lord, help me to see the right way. Give me the strength to do it Your way!” God begins working.
One of His most precious promises is that GOD WORKS ALL things together for good for those WHO LOVE GOD, for those who are called according to His promise. (Romans 8:28) When God works He has unlimited ability and the availability of all creation to restore that which you have torn down. God will forget your sins and throw them in the sea of forgetfulness and that’s where He wants you to put them too. God now wants you to have the same attitude as Paul in the book of Philippians—forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, to press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called you. For you this may seem impossible, but with God all things are possible. He WANTS to do this for you because you are his precious, priceless child that He unconditionally loves.
For those of you who have been trying to obey God, know that He sees and is pleased. His promise will come to pass and your life will strengthen and encourage your family.
