CHILDREN ARE A GIFT FROM GOD! 

​Psalm 127:3​

Just think, every baby born of every woman is a gift from God.  God gives the gift of life.  It is God that gives life and breath to everyone in the world. (Isaiah 42:5)

​

"You made all the delicate inner parts of my body

and knit me together in my mother’s womb. 

You saw me before I was born." 

(Psalm 139:13)​

"Take a moment now to think of a baby in a mother’s womb, the babe is growing inside.  Imagine God himself reaching down hour by hour to create something out of nothing, new cells, new bone, new tissue, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, adding daily to each little one.” (Nine Months and Counting)

"As we do not know the path of the wind,

or how the body is formed in a mother’s womb,

so you cannot understand the work of God,

the Maker of all things." 

(Ecc. 11:5)

Abraham was born in 2166 B. C. In Genesis 15:2-4 we see Abraham’s prayer, asking God to give Him a child.  God answered his prayer and Isaac was born in 2066 B.C.  Abraham lived another 75 years after the birth of Isaac.  Sarah, Abraham’s wife was 90 when her son was born.  The Bible doesn’t tell us why God waited so long to give this couple a child.  It seems in this instant society we live in where we think we have to have everything and have it right now, waiting for God seems impossible.  But God promises to bless those that wait on Him.  God blessed Sarah and Abraham, He was faithful.

Isaac was forty years old when he married Rebekah.  In Genesis 25:19-23, 26 we read that Rebekah was childless.  Isaac prayed and God answered by giving them twins.  Jacob and Esau were born in 2006 B.C.

​

Jacob married Rachel and Leah.  When the Lord saw that Leah was not loved, he opened her womb but Rachel was barren. (Genesis 29:31)  After Leah had many children, we read that then God remembered Rachel.  He listened to her and opened her womb.  She became pregnant and gave birth to a son Joseph. (Genesis 30:22)

In Judges 13:2-3 we read, “A certain man named Manoah had a wife who was sterile and remained childless.  The angel of the Lord appeared to her and said, “You are sterile and childless, but are going to conceive and have a son.”  The woman told Manoah and he went to God saying, “O Lord, I beg you, let the man of God you sent to us come again to teach us how to bring up the boy who is to be born.”  Samson was the child born to this couple.

In the book of Ruth we read, “So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife.  Then he went to her, and the Lord enabled her to conceive, and she gave birth to a son.”  This son was the grandfather of King David.

Samuel was born in 1105 B. C.  Samuel was a prophet of God, serving God all the days of his life.  Two books of the Bible are named after him.  The circumstances of his birth are quite interesting.  Elkanah and Hannah were his parents.  Elkanah had two wives, the other’s name was Peninnah.  Peninnah had several children, but the Lord had given Hannah none.  Peninnah made fun of Hannah because the Lord had closed her womb.  Year after year Peninnah taunted her.  One year Hannah went to the Tabernacle to pray.  In deep anguish and crying bitterly she prayed to the Lord.  She made this vow,  “Lord if you will look down on my sorrow and answer my prayer and give me a son, then I will give him back to you.”  While praying the priest thought she was drunk.  (1 Sam. 1:1-28)

Hannah had a problem that upset her greatly; she didn’t go to the world for help.  She asked God.  Hannah did not let the taunting of Peninnah or the wrong judgment made by the prophet turn her from God.  As badly as Hannah ached and hurt, she looked to God, her source, for help.  And the great news:  God answered.  In 1 Samuel 1:27 Hannah says, “I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted what I asked of Him.”  Not only was she given Samuel, but in 1 Samuel 2:21 we read, “the Lord gave Hannah three sons and two daughters.”

​

About 5 B. C.  Zechariah and Elizabeth have John; John the Baptist.  In Luke 1:6-7 we read, “Zechariah and Elizabeth were righteous in God’s eyes, careful to obey all of the Lord’s commandments and regulations.  They had no children because Elizabeth was barren, and now they were both very old.”  Next we see an angel appearing to the husband saying, “Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard.  Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to give him the name John.” (Luke 1:13)​

Having babies is all about God.

​

"I waited patiently for the Lord;

He inclined to me and heard my cry.

He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise.
Happy are those who make the Lord their trust."
